International Jury Announced for Manifesta 16 Ruhr Open Call
Manifesta 16 Ruhr has unveiled the international jury that will select the eleven projects for the biennial’s PLUS programme. The jury comprises a diverse group of local and international cultural professionals, who will evaluate submissions for the community-focused Open Call.
The selected projects will receive a financial contribution of up to €15,000 and become part of the Manifesta 16 PLUS programme, which runs alongside the main biennial. With the Open Call we were searching for projects that bring diverse groups together, strengthening community bonds through arts, music, literature, ecology, sports, democracy and beyond. Proposals should highlight shared perspectives within the Ruhr Area's multicultural society and are encouraged to take place in or near a (previous) place of worship.
The jury is committed to selecting projects that catalyse community-led engagement and are developed collaboratively to ensure lasting local impact.
The Open Call jury members are:
- Carlos Antunes: Architect, curator and professor; co-founder of Atelier do Corvo and director of the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra (CAPC) and Anozero - Coimbra Biennial.
- Dr. Gürsoy Doğtaş: Curator, art historian and Public Programme Creative Mediator of Manifesta 16 Ruhr. His practice lies at the intersections of institutional critique, structural racism and Queer Studies.
- Amira Gad: Art curator, writer and editor; Conservator of Modern & Contemporary Art at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam.
- Prof. Dr. Renée Tribble: Head of Urban Development, Urban Land-Use Planning and Urban Design Processes, TU Dortmund University; planner and founder and partner of PlanBude Hamburg and Projektbüro in Hamburg.
- Prof. Dr. Barbara Welzel: Professor of Art History and Cultural Education, TU Dortmund University; co-initiator of the Church Manifesto.
- Stefanie Reichart: Head of the Department of Culture, Sports and Industrial Heritage at the Regionalverband Ruhr (RVR)

The jury will now begin the process of reviewing all submissions to choose the eleven projects that will form the Manifesta 16 PLUS programme.
