"Komm und nimm Platz" The pre-biennial programme of Manifesta 16 Ruhr begins with two workshops on the 16th and 17th of October 2025

With the start of the pre-biennial programme, Manifesta 16 Ruhr in Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf opens a new chapter: through a range of events, it transforms the square around the former St. Josef Church into a place for exchange and encounter. Participation in all events is free of charge.

16th & 17th of October, 16.30–18.00, Basketball workshops with Social BallerZ, a Gelsenkirchen-based project promoting movement, team spirit and inclusion on the court. A temporary basketball court with all that goes with it will be set up on the forecourt of the former St. Josef Church. No registration is required.

17th of October, 12.30–16.00, Kick-off and workshop: #UPGRADE-ST.JOSEF: Collaborative design with lala.ruhr, the network for landscape, architecture and spatial planning. Together with local residents, a temporary design in public space will be developed, built and implemented in front of the former St. Josef Church. Using furniture and permanent chalk paint, the first upgrade of the square will take shape: ideas will be developed, tested and built.
